Sky Valley Volunteers is a community service project, under the 501(c)3 non-profit Save Chatsworth, Inc. The organization is dedicated to reforesting and maintaining the native oak woodlands in the open spaces and mountains of the northwest San Fernando Valley. The trees planted today will live on for generations and nurture the wildlife around them.

The group began in September 2017, when the founders were assisting the Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains with an invasive insect survey. The statement that launched the project came from the senior conservation biologist: “The only silver lining to this bad bug situation is these insects do not go after saplings.”

We organized and propagated the initial batch of oaks from acorns, and in February 2018 the first trees went into the ground. The 100% volunteer organization is made up of an incredible and eclectic group of individuals of all ages, diligent workers with a common purpose: to restore local forests, promote habitat restoration, and educate and engage the wider community.

Sky Valley Volunteers has developed relationships with large local landholders to work on their properties. The volunteers meet up to four mornings a week, as individual schedules permit. We water and maintain the saplings (which are planted in the fall and winter) and care for them until they establish strong root systems and can survive on their own.

Come join us! Be part of this living legacy and watch your trees grow!
